Baby is in trouble. Fresh out of juvenile detention and with nowhere to go, 17-year-old Wellington (stunning newcomer João Pedro Mariano) — nicknamed “Baby” for his youth and vulnerability — hits the streets of São Paulo alone. His parents have vanished, and the system is waiting to pull him back in.
Baby, the latest from Marcelo Caetano (Body Electric), traces Wellington’s search for connection and stability as he forms a complicated bond with Ronald (theater veteran Ricardo Teodoro), a charismatic older hustler. Sometimes father figure, sometimes boyfriend, sometimes business partner, Ronald pulls Baby deeper into a world where survival means blurring every boundary. With a pulsating soundtrack, a sharp eye for queer subculture, and a great cast which also includes Frameline favorite Bruna Linzmeyer (Cidade; Campo, Frameline48), Baby balances grit and style as it explores sex work, chosen family, and the power plays that define both.
Director Marcelo Caetano expected to be in attendance
