This film will be playing as part of a double feature event on June 13th in which the Oscar-nominated writer-director Nicholas Meyer will be in person at the Vogue to discuss his work shaping two of the most iconic San Francisco movies of all time (Time After Time and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
Nicholas Meyer’s connection to the city first began in 1979 with his directorial debut adapting the story Time After Time, in which the science fiction author H.G. Wells (Malcolm McDowell) travels to from 19th century England to 1970’s San Francisco to capture the illusive serial killer Jack the Ripper (David Warner) after he escapes their era with the time machine Wells invented. What follows is both an exciting race against time to find the Ripper before he can kill again, and a surprisingly charming fish out of water romance in which Wells explores the future he only dreamed of while falling in love with a bank employee named Amy (Mary Steenburgen) who assists the aloof stranger in his pursuit.
Post-screening conversation with the film’s writer and director Nicholas Meyer, moderated by Western Neighborhoods Project and Bay Area Movies.
